HMC DirecTV Receiver

April 9, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

I just got the new HMC DirecTV Receiver. I have to say that DirecTV finally put out a great receiver. we had 3 older receivers from 3 years ago and they were slow as molasses. It would take 5-10 seconds to scroll through the guide every time you clicked a button. Talk about torture. The new receiver is lightning quick and records 5 shows at once. This is great because we don’t really have to worry about recording conflicts too much anymore.  We have two non DVR receivers in the other two rooms so we don’t have to deal with multiple DVRs anymore either.  they are all connected together so we can watch the shows on any of the TV’s. The hard drive in the HMC HR34 is 4x bigger so we shouldn’t see capacity issues with show recordings for quite some time.

The catch is that DirecTV screws you if you are an existing subscriber. We would have had to pay more for the HMC receiver being an existing subscriber. I cancelled our DirecTV and opened a new account in someone elses name. This save a lot of money and we were able to get all of the movie channels for free for 3 months and a reduction for them for the 1st year. You might want to consider this if DirecTV busts your balls when you call them for a receiver upgrade.
