5. Batman Begins
Like the title describes, this is the story of how Batman becomes Batman. Young Bruce Wayne has a fear of bats, developed from an encounter of a swarm of bats in a cave when he was just eight years old. Shortly after that, he becomes frightened during an opera that has bat-like creatures. After convincing his parents to leave the opera, they encounter robbers, and both his parents are murdered. He blames himself, and never forgives himself.
This leads to a young adult Bruce Wayne carelessly wandering the world. In Asia, he encounters Henri Ducard, and is mentored in the arts ot the ninja in the League Of Shadows. Finding that this group is not what it seems, he breaks away to return to Gotham City. Upon his return, he sets out to clean up the deteriorating city of the criminal infestation. Discovering a cave under the Wayne mansion, he decides to become Batman, to hide his identity and carry out his mission.
4. The Best Of Youth
This movie follows the plight of two Italian brothers for over four decades. It sees them through some of the most difficult events of recent Italian history. The brothers, Matteo and Nicola, travel from Rome, to the floods of Florence in 1966, to the student unrest in Turin, to the Mafia murders in Palermo, and even two trips to Norway.
The free spirited Nicola eventually becomes a psychiatrist. While, more idealistic and introverted, Matteo becomes an Italian policeman, hoping to right the worlds wrongs. Their politics and personalities are inextricably intertwined as the world around them violently shifts and they are pushed together and pulled apart by the tides of history and their own divergent dreams.
3 King Kong
The classic story retold again. Set in the 1930’s, this is the story of explorers and documentary film makers who travel to Skull Island, chasing the legend of the giant gorilla named Kong.
They finally are able to capture the 25 foot giant, and plan to make millions by displaying Kong to the public. They ship him back to New York and stage a huge event to show Kong off. When Kong becomes disturbed, the shackles can’t hold him down, and Kong is free and frightened in the middle of New York.
2. Good Night And Good Luck
This film is written and directed by George Clooney. It is based on true events that occurred in the 1950’s. Using the threat of communism, US senator Joseph McCarthy was conducting witch hunts, and was getting full support from J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI.
Many in the entertainment industry were singled out and suffered abuses. This story is about how CBS reporter Edward R. Murrow, and his producer Fred W. Friendly, take McCarthy on. They expose what McCarthy is doing with his fear mongering and heavy handed tactics. This act takes a tremendous toll on both TV men, but they stand strong, and help bring down this radical and controversial senator.
1. Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
This is an animated family movie. In this adventure, these two characters are out to cash in on the Giant Vegetable Competition. They are offering humane pest-control, the Anti Pesto company.
This leads to their home filling up with rabbits. With their business booming, they get an important job. When a mysterious veggie consuming beast starts to devour prized vegetable patches, Anti Pesto is hired to catch the beast and save the competition.
